i did not like new york. it was big and cramped and loud and smelly, and everyone was rude. there were no mountains, the air was weird and muggy, and everyone was rude. the food was expensive, and everyone was rude. and everyone was rude.

anyway--i'm back now. are you awake/online right now? can you beta a story i'm working on, pretty pretty princess please, with sprinkles and extra frosting?

hey, i'm...well, my parents are making me go with them to New York for a week. i hope i survive...
when i was little, plane rides were fun, until they started with the whole pat-down business, and now i just...really hate airports. i'm really not looking forward to this.

anyway i hope to be able to contact you very soon; i'll try to remember to post when i get to new york.

ok wow, there was a lot of stuff i forgot to mention! it all happened yesterday.

okay, so, here's what happened:

1. interview! dressed very nice, though hair was tres frump.

2. thrift-store-shopping with my mom; find plum-colored shalwar kameez that's in really good condition, except for some minor stains. it fits nicely and is cute!

3. meet Ruben at Church's, slake week-long craving for fried okra. also obtain chicken i didn't really want and a biscuit i also didn't really want. (ruben ate half.)

4. go back to ruben's house with him, meet his friend Krissy. let's go to Red Robin! obtain sweet potato fries, argue with Ruben over his claim that i told him i didn't like them. (i'd never had them before.) get a chocolate milkshake. drink til i shiver. ruben and krissy drink a lot of beer! ruben gets his favorite kind and insists i try it. it looks like flat root-beer, and tastes like shoe polish and rubbing alcohol. i am sad. ruben gives me beermouth kisses to try and make me feel better, but mostly fails.

5. while slumped over table feeling sleepy, someone calls name. look up to see childhood best friend. stare in shock for about five seconds, then grin like idiot, run over, hug, and start chattering happily. get invited back to her table to greet her family again, after 12 years. everyone looked so different, i hardly recognized them! reconnect with childhood friend, swap phone numbers, discover that i already have number on my phone because my sister gave it to me and i forgot about it. say gooddbye to friend. grin like idiot for next half-hour.

6. return to ruben's house for a nice (and fully clothed) cuddle-and-nap on his couch. later, when he is sitting up and internetting, and i am sort of sprawled over the couch like i live there, his mom comes in, looks shocked--didn't see, didn't have glasses on--then looks shocked and runs back out. ruben goes to apologize to his mom; i go back to sleep until he comes back. ruben drives me home, and voila! the day is over. into bed at 2:30, after calling Bri to talk to her for two hours.

it was very fun.

so i'm going to new york for a week.
i should say, i'm being taken to new york for a week, because i didn't ask to go, and i don't really want to. wish me luck?

so i've been absent mostly because i've been too depressed to post, or do much of anything.
but i can't keep feeling sorry for myself, and i'm trying to work on it.

i just tasted both rooibos and lapsang souchong teas for the first time
holy shit

okay the rooibos is...really sweet. like, i added sugar and it tasted like cough syrup sweet. and i only add, like, three teaspoons of sugar! this is my standard amount for all tea. three teaspoons of sugar. exactly. and the after-aroma in the empty mug smelled like cough syrup--really sweet and cloying.

and the lapsang souchong, which i was expecting to be heinously bitter, is actually really mellow. also, as i was brewing it, i sniffed the steam and wondered, "what smells like bacon bits?"
and oh my god, lapsang souchong totally smells like bacon bits. it also TASTES like them. when i went and read that the tea is smoked over pine needles, that made a lot of sense.

tl;dr i have discovered delicious things.

(oh god where have i been my whole life, why have i been drinking dollar-for-a-box-of-one-hundred-teabags labeled 'TEA' swill water?)

ALSO OH MY GOD rooibos tea makes me very, very nervous. or, rather, not the tea; it's got almost no caffeine. just the location it's grown in, and how it's harvested, and its history.

i just found out why you're not supposed to use polyester and cotton in the same quilt. apparently the polyester has ten times the tensile strength of cotton, and polyester fibers will literally rip the cotton fibers near them to shreds over time.
